the act of laminating, or the state of being laminated; arrangement in layers or thin plates; specifically, in geology, a division of rock into layers or laminæ: nearly the same as stratification.
2. in electricity, the constructing of the iron part of a magnetic circuit of thin laminæ or sheets of iron or steel, for the purpose of eliminating, in an alternating or rotating magnetic field, the induction of currents in the iron and the loss of power resulting therefrom. the lamination for this purpose must he at right angles to the direction in which an induced current would flow, but parallel to the direction of the magnetic flux.
